That tells us that your server is either set to require local authentication (which is not the default) or the client was actually communicating with the server by going outside of the network and back in most likely since they definitely weren't connecting locally. The roku, or any client on the local network should be picking up any PMS on the local network whether you're signed into MyPlex or not by default. The fact that even with the VPN disconnected, it wouldn't work once you were signed out of MyPlex, tells us something else. There's no reason they shouldn't be able to see each other on the local network whether PIA is connected or not. The fact that this works tells us that the client and server can communicate with each other on the local network. Personally, I'd at least try to identify the root issue and fix it if possible. So it's your call on what to do from here. And you may not care about getting to the root of the issue since it's working. But it's also helped narrow some things down though. At this point, it's not really a fix so much as a work around. It wasn't really meant to be the resolution. So if you don't have it set as a static IP, you may want to do that.Įverything I asked you to do was intended to rule things out/identify one thing as being more likely than the other. If the local IP address of your PMS changes, you'll need to change it on the Roku or it will stop working.
